Dari Kekerasan Menuju Kelembutan: Pendekatan Pastoral Konseling Berbasis Nilai Kristiani terhadap Pola Asuh Keluarga

Zacharias Sahureka

Abstract

This study examines the developmental tasks of children aged 12-17 and the phenomenon of parental violence against children in the context of the GPI Papua Getsemani Wagom Utara congregation. Adolescents in this age range undergo significant physical, cognitive, social, and emotional changes that play a crucial role in shaping their identity. However, parental violence remains an issue that can hinder their growth and development. This violence includes physical, verbal, emotional abuse, and neglect, often influenced by economic, social, cultural, and parental psychological factors. The findings indicate that verbal violence is more prevalent than physical violence, as parents tend to hesitate when using physical force on older children. Contributing factors to parental violence include emotional stress, communication failures, inherited parenting patterns, and social environmental influences. To address this issue, pastoral measures such as counseling, mentoring, and parental education on positive parenting should be continuously implemented. With these strategies, parenting approaches can be transformed into more positive ones, ensuring children grow in a healthier and more supportive environment.
